There’s been tech talk about using a bumper case or even duct tape to fix the death grip-spot on the iPhone 4, but now comes an elegant fix worthy of Apple’s high standards in design.

Head on over to Etsy and order yourself up a 6-pack of Antenn-aid: a custom-sized vinyl sticker for your iPhone 4 designed to be placed over the lower left corner of the antenna. It may improve signal performance. Note that the sellers caution these bad-boy bandaids are just “for entertainment purposes only, results may vary.”

While were not fans of using toxic vinyl especially when it’s just for fun and not function, if you choose to do so, you get one of each stylish color (gray, light-gray, green, blue, peach, purple), for a total of 6 Antenn-aids. Sony NEX VG10 Interchangable Lens Camcorder Misses Changing the Game

Sony announced their first interchangable lens consumer camcorder the NEX VG10. Release date is set for September retailing at $2000 (including 18-200mm kit lens worth $800 that’s a little slow at F3.5-6.3) and you can pre-order today. The camera records 1920×1080i in AVCHD at 24Mbit and can record high quality 14MP stills. But just what is missing from this camera that makes it miss the mark as unseating DSLRs?

This bad boy is bad in that Sony has only equipped it to record in 30p NTSC or 25p PAL (at 60 interlaced fields per second fixed at that 60i frame rate), ergo no 24p recording. The lack of 24p to the Canon 5D off the table for many professionals with the proclivity to acquire the look of film in their recorded work (that coupled with the Canon 5Ds inability to push out HD to an external monitor). Perhaps like with the Canon, Sony can release a firmware update at a later time which will imbue the NEX VG10 with the superpower of 24p.

Beyond that, the E-mount lens system is a bit underwhelming for those looking to use the Nikon or say Zeiss primes they already have in their kits such as this, this, this or this. Yum.

In the end, the Sony NEX-VG10 seems like a good b-cam, or second camera to use in a pinch. Although it weighs-in at 3 pounds, perhaps it could kick some independent documentary film ass.

iPhone 4 App: iChatr – Random Video Chat

Like Chatroulette the free iPhone 4 app randomly creates video chats between people using their front facing camera. What’s also random is that the audio only works with the headphones in. We believe this programming shortcut was taken to get this bad boy to market and in a hurry. Or perhaps it has to do with distracting male users with cumbersome technology so that they no longer have the mental bandwidth, nor physically available hands, to pull out any funny stuff if you know what we mean.

Consumer Reports says it is unable to recommend the iPhone 4 until Apple fixes antenna problems. Although Consumer Reports isn’t making a specific recommendation, say Paul Reynolds, you can try using duct tape to cover the lower left hand side of the iPhone 4 to avoid the “death grip” and lose signal strength.

Having reception trouble with the iPhone 4? Consumer Reports says the easiest fix for the death grip antenna glitch may be a sliver of duct tape. CNN.com’s tech reporter John Sutter also says you can get yourself an iPhone bumper that goes around the outside edge of the device. Perhaps instead of the silver duct tape, some black gaffer’s tape might prove to be a more elegant option?
